Food

All mediaeval tastes in your mouth

As diverse as the festival is its food – smoky and spicy, delightful and alluring, delicate and exquisite. You can choose something different to eat every day of the festival, and there will be still dishes left to be tried at the end of it. Whatever your favourites and preferences might be, the festival invites you to indulge in all the very different tastes of medieval food – be they sweet or savoury. Some camps have become famous for the delicacies they offer – like the fire-roasted pork or tarte flambée with the town guards, the huntsmen’s freshly game dishes, the “Rahmfleck” (a bun with sour cream, bacon and fresh herbs) at the Fähnlein Helfenstein, and the skewered fish with the Frundsberg Fähnlein. Those with a sweet tooth might want to try the “Apfelküchle” (apple beignets) at the Frundsberg Fähnlein, the “crullers” at the Frundsbergschützen or the “Kaiserschmarrn” at the town guards (cut-up and sugared pancakes with raisins). This short list, however, gives only a small selection of all the different food and dishes offered during the festival in the historical town centre of Mindelheim.
